When we ignore a trigger, we become a trigger. A trigger is a feeling that indicates a deeper problem and something unresolved from the past. How do you know it’s a trigger? It is a sudden flood of feelings that is more often than not accompanied by strong anxiety, anger, frustration, or withdrawals, racing heart, a spike in blood pressure. We become more defensive and irritated. We need to learn about how these triggers work and what to do when something inside us is triggered. In other words, we must connect in order to correct.
How can you become aware of what triggers are rooted in the past? Intentionally pay attention to any time you notice yourself feeling intense reactions to something or someone. Then step back by taking a deep breath and ask yourself three questions: (1) When have I felt this in the past? (2) Who was I with? (3) What soul words describe this intense reaction? When we make the time to step back and sort of inventory what’s going on inside, that trigger will no longer control you. Friends, if we don’t connect with our emotions, we won’t correct our relationships. Truthfully, Kim-Evinda #TuesdaysTruth #TrenchClassesUnited #KimEvinda #LivingFearlessly #UncoveringYourTriggers
