When we ‘drink of The Living Water,’ we won’t be thirsty for love.© ~Kim-EvindaShe sat there, stunned by humble conviction followed by a bit of human frustration. “Why didn’t I see this sooner?” she asked more to herself than Him. Thanks for joining us for Wednesday’s Word with Kim-Evinda and Trench Classes United. Today’s blog really brings this truth to the surface: His word is alive and meets us right where we are. Clearing the Path by Nathan Westwick was not one of those books that you read in a couple of sittings. She had started it a while ago, and knew after reading Chapter 1 that this was going to be one of those that would need to be read and digested slowly so as to get the full benefit emotionally and spiritually. After all, its premise is meant to connect with God in a more intimate and meaningful way by clearing the path of distractions.
She was in Chapter 3, recognizing not only the valleys in our life, but what not to fill them with. She was in no way prepared for a new understanding she received by a passage of scripture she thought she was more familiar with, “the woman at the well.” As she dug into John 4:3-18 alongside the text in her current study, a new truth revealed itself, brighter than the principle of respect, and with it came the realization of the timing of His timing, perfect, as usual: She had never related with the woman at the well…until now. She remembered she was a Samaritan woman and those two combined brought reproach. She also remembered her as commonly referred to as a prostitute or in the current vernacular a ho. When Jesus asked her where her husband was, and she replied that she wasn’t married. His response was nothing other than “other worldly” as he agreed with her by letting her know she had been married FIVE times and wasn’t married to the man she was currently with. She was stunned that He knew all of this. But let’s not miss why He then chose to share with her about “The Living Water.” He was letting her know that He understood her feelings of rejection and abandonment and her desperate search for love. He wanted her to know that what He was offering her, NO MAN could ever give her. In other words, His love would never reject or abandon her. Friends, I never really related with the woman at the well until just recently. I too have been rejected and abandoned…several times; however, because He is my first love, I don’t have to go searching for a man’s love. Sure, I’d like to have a man who loves me for always, who is not threatened by my faith, my strength and/or my passion to help others drink of “The Living Water,” but that need no longer sends me searching. If I’m to experience that, I want Him to send it and not have me try and find it. Friend, are you thirsty for love? If you are single, wondering if you’ll ever find that “perfect” love, can I encourage you to drink of “The Living Water” that you would be satisfied and content.
