Thursday's Truthful HumorThanks for joining us for Thursday’s truthful humor where we pull truth from humor.
A man, who smelled like a distillery, flopped down on a subway seat next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading. After a few minutes the disheveled man turned to the priest and said, "Say, Father, what causes arthritis?" "Mister, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap wicked women, too much alcohol, and a contempt for your fellow man." "Well, I'll be damned," the drunk muttered, returning to his paper. The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. "I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?" "I don't have it, Father. I was just reading that the Pope does." Oh, Mylanta…I don’t know about you but I have felt this type of disdain from those like the guy in this joke…and I have also been humbled just like the pastor in this joke. Perhaps instead of judging we should just love, like Jesus would and then. Wednesday’s WordMy heart soared with encouragement when I read her post; perhaps it will encourage yours as well no matter what your political preferences are.
Thanks for joining us for Wednesday’s Word with Trench Classes United and our guest writer, Karen Donahue, sister to Kim-Evinda. There is such a duality -- actually probably more multi-faceted in life as humans. We wrestle – some more than others – daily, moment to moment between our higher selves and our opposite lower selves known as the human condition. If we choose the higher self at any given moment, it seems easier to see God and to know and do good. When we are at our lowest, sight of God seems murky not only by the stress of such lows, but of the mud we now have in our eyes, clouding our vision from/of God and of our higher selves, the way He sees us. It’s the in-between where we can be saved or not by raising our hands above ourselves and asking for help, saving us from staying in the lowest points. I am increasingly aware, now more than ever before, that I’ve been at some very low points, stayed there, making very unhealthy choices or judgments due to the filth clouding my vision, separating me from God. This is not where I want to be. But sometimes the miracle of the mud in our eyes can bring light and beautiful lessons from those said dark times. I do not relish the mud, the lows, but those times are instrumental in my well-being and growth later on if I “get” God in all of it. “As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.” Proverbs 27:19 Thoughtfully, Karen For More from today's author, visit instagram.com/karendonahue53/ Welcome to Tuesday’s Truthful Humor where we pull truth from humor.
A pastor decided to do something a little different one Sunday morning. He said, "Today, in church, I'm going to say a single word and you are going to help me preach. The congregation looked a bit puzzled. He continued: Whatever word I say, I want you to sing whatever hymn comes to your mind." The pastor shouted out "Cross." Immediately the congregation started singing in unison The Old Rugged Cross. The pastor hollered out "Grace." The congregation began to sing Amazing Grace. The pastor said "Power." The congregation sang There Is Power in the Blood. The pastor said “Sex”' The congregation fell in total silence. Everyone was in shock. They all nervously began to look around at each other, afraid to say anything. Then all of a sudden, way in the back of the church, a little 87 year old grandmother stood up and began to sing Precious Memories. Oh, Mylanta, friends, sex inside of marriage is not to be a distant memory but a covenant reminder!
