Wednesday's Word“Satan: I will cause anxiety, fear and panic. I will shut down businesses, schools, places of worship and sports event. I will cause economic turmoil.” (C.S. Lewis 1942)
Well, who would of thunk it, huh? Did C.S. Lewis write this knowing it was going to happen? Was this a prophecy? Thanks for joining us for Wednesday’s Word with Trench Classes United and Kim-Evinda. I don’t know about you, but I can only take so much of the doom-and-gloom of the news. Now that ‘s not to say I stick my head in the sand and pretend that all of this COVID-19 nightmare isn’t happening, but can I get a witness that God is STILL on His throne? I don’t know about you, but I am indeed guilty of wanting to understand all of life’s challenges and make sense of them. However, God continues to show patience as I endeavor to learn that there are many things I don’t get to understand and instead of investing energy into that useless endeavor, maybe I should invest myself differently. This truth is certainly relevant in this season of global uncertainty. What does it matter where it started, how it started, what this person says about it, or they say about it, what the President is declaring, what this city is doing, this county is not doing, what those in office say or do? Why can’t we take the energy we are using to disagree to find some commonality? While this pandemic is huge and affecting us in all areas of life, we need to let go of those things we cannot change – actions, attitudes and advertisements of others – and focus our attention on those things we can change. Our one God-given and God-requested response to any situation involving our leaders is to P.R.A.Y.! During this COVID-19 season may we truly become a nation that prays: Praise Him: He absodarnlutely honors our praises, especially when they are given in a season of suffering. There is ALWAYS at least ONE thing to praise Him for…and often more than that each and every single day we are given. Repent: of any actions or attitudes or advertisements that we participate in that are not Christ-like. In other words, instead of investing negatively in the actions, attitudes and advertisements, be a part of the solution by offering encouragement, fueling your faith thru His Word and living like you believe. Ask Him: for help in all areas that concern us. He wants to be invited into ANYTHING that concerns us. He’s just waiting for us to ask. Yield to His will and not our own: What is God doing in you, and me, that He may work through you, and me, during this time of uncertainty? Considering the acrostic for Pray, now read the other half of C.S. Lewis’s quote written in 1942: “Jesus: ‘I will bring together neighbors, restore the family unit. I will bring dinner back to the kitchen table. I will help people slow down their lives and appreciate what really matters. I will teach my children to rely on me and not the world. I will teach my children to trust me and not their money and material resources.’” Just maybe, we still have some yielding to do? Thoughtfully, Kim-Evinda
