God humbles not to hurt but to help us ~KE

Wednesday Word

As she realized that her sister had had a valid point, she practically choked on her lack
of humility. The picture of a bull in a China cabinet came to life, haunting her once
again. Lately there had been lots of lessons in humility with those closest to her. Lord,
what are you trying to tell me?

Welcome to Wednesday’s Word with Kim-Evinda and Trench Classes United. Ah,
considering the power of Social Media, where does humility fit in while in between two
worlds, this one and eternity?

Life is funny, just when you think you’re good with a lesson in life to prepare for eternity,
He allows another lesson to come our way. T He used my sister as a sort of nail to drive
this point home! 

What’s the first thing you think or feel when you read/hear this word, humility? My guess
is your first instinct may not be so positive, at least not as beautiful as humility was
meant to be. The struggle lies in the fact that this fruit of the Spirit is one that tries to
sneak away…often, and I do mean often! Why is that? Because we have this house of
flesh that consistently needs to be shushed! Humility is not a lesson wherein you just
tweak your nose, snap your fingers, or push a 30-second button and voila, we are
humbled! I mean, we can be humbled that quick; but the problem is pushing the pause
button so humility stays with us and in us through all circumstances.
I think the two biggest relationships in our lives, parenting and marriage, family, are
what teach us that humility is like salt to a tasteless meal; it adds flavor; it makes
everything better.

As I searched my heart in how to best apologize to my sister for my part in our
disagreement, I was reminded that because I long to be pleasing in His eyes, humility
helps me do just that and prevents me from getting on my broom and rising above
others as I take a fast spin around my circumstances…or park it more quickly
The Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines humility in this way: “The quality or state of
not thinking you are better than others.” This includes opinions!

Oh, Abba, help me to remember this definition when it comes to voicing or sharing an
opinion and/or information on any social media platform, in my friendships and in my
home, especially if I do this with any sort of pride, or just because the opinion or
information lines up with my thoughts and/or truths that I have learned. But more
importantly, because Your Word reminds me to humble myself under Your hand, for
you will exalt me (pull me up and out of myself) in due time that I would cast all my
cares (and opinions that I am passionate upon You) because You care for me (and
everything that concerns me).

Friend, know this: God will humble us not to hurt us but to help us. He is more
concerned about our humility than our happiness… and He will do what He needs to do
to achieve this virtue in us.
