Thursday Trench Truth Have you ever found yourself so exasperated and angry with someone or something
that you wanted to throw something, or hit something or someone? I’ve had more than my fair share of rageful moments that have left me so desperately ashamed, humiliated, which only served to add to my pot of unresolved anger. I’ll never forget who God used and how He used him to teach me the power of tongue and hurtful words. It was right after a big fight with my now ex-husband. We were sitting in front of the fire, having a sweet moment, and trying to talk thru what had happened. During the conversation, he said, “Give me your tongue.” I looked at him, rather stupidly, I’ll admit, and finally asked, “What?” “Give me your tongue.” “What do you mean give you my tongue?” He very gently said, “Stick out your tongue.” I obliged very cautiously, feeling pretty vulnerable as I did. He reached over and gently took my tongue in between his thumb and index finger and the words he said next rendered me speechless…and not because he had my tongue in his hand: “This has hurt me more than anything you’ve ever done.” Friends, do you ever say things you wish you could take back out of anger?
